Super 8 - J. J. Abrahms (2011)

Date watched: 6/16/11
Film: Super 8
Director: J. J. Abrams

Ok, now this was just fun. This film has a serious dash of The Goonies, crossed with Close Encounters with a touch of Tobe Hooper just added for fun. I really enjoyed this movie.  There is a nostalgia factor to be sure, part of the happy I was receiving was putting myself in the protagonist's (the kid Joe)'s shoes.

Who didn't imagine having an awesome adventure in the 80's?  I lived in Northridge, CA.  They honestly had to reroute my grade school bus because of filmings of C.H.i.P.s and Knight Rider in this era.  No joke, I was late to 2nd grade because the A-Team was in the hills by my house.

And this film really brought me back there, saving the world in my mind as I fell asleep. Very E.T. Very Invaders From MarsAbrams remembers what it is like to be a kid in this age.

Also, Elle Fanning is ten times the actor that her big sister has shown us.  Elle is our Cyndi Lauper, Dakota is our Madonna.  Talent trumps presence.

Reminded me of:
